Murin-an was built between 1894 and 1896 as the villa of Yamagata Aritomo, a politician of the Meiji and Taisho periods. Why not spend some quality time in the scenic garden? You can enjoy this exquisite Japanese space in private, with the utmost care given to it by Ueyakato Landscape, a long-established Kyoto landscape gardening company founded in 1858 and boasting 170 years of history. The garden is made up of three buildings: the main house, a Western-style building, and a teahouse. The garden is a masterpiece of modern Japanese gardening, designed by Ogawa Jihei VII under the instructions of the owner, Yamagata Aritomo. You can also use it as a special private space at night, when it is normally closed to the public.
