Kyoto has flourished as a center of politics, art and culture since ancient times.

Even though times have changed, the feelings, techniques, and sensibilities that remain rooted in the area have been passed down from generation to generation. TCI Institute is the only manufacturer of Kyoto Japanese umbrellas left in Kyoto today, based on the motto that tradition is continuous innovation, based on the desire to pass on the value and appearance of craftsmen to the next generation. , We work with various craftsmen to develop and propose products that match the current atmosphere.
Kotori ~Original table stand with family crest and logo~
The product we are introducing this time is Kotozato, which was arrived at after many days of searching for a way to let more people know about the gentle light that shines through the washi paper when a Kyoto umbrella is held up to the sun, and the beauty of the bamboo ribs that create a geometric pattern. Founded in the late Edo period, this is a simple, new lighting that makes use of the traditional beauty that has been passed down for five generations in the ancient capital of Kyoto.

Using carefully selected washi paper from domestic washi paper producing areas, Kyo-Wagasa craftsmen carefully handcraft each umbrella. Because they are handmade, they can include family crests and logos on each umbrella.
The shade can be removed from the light fixture and replaced to suit the season or interior.
It can also be opened and closed like a Kyoto umbrella, so it can be stored compactly.

Manufacturer Information

Hiyoshiya

Hiyoshiya is a long-established Kyoto umbrella maker that has been in business for about 160 years.
Currently, our company is the only store in Kyoto that manufactures Japanese umbrellas.
Due to dramatic changes in lifestyles, banasa (parallel umbrellas) that were used on a daily basis began to be treated as "traditional crafts." Is it okay to continue to treat Japanese umbrellas as something special? I want to create things that are universally used in daily life, just like in the past. With that in mind, I started searching for something.
Tradition is not only passed down, but also innovated to suit the times.
We continue to innovate every day with the belief that this is what it means to protect and pass on tradition.
