  • What is Urushi?

    What is Urushi?

This is a paint and adhesive made from purified natural sap collected from lacquer trees. It hardens through oxidation with moisture and oxygen in the air, forming a glossy and durable film. Due to its high durability, waterproofness, and antibacterial properties, it has been used since the Jomon period for lacquerware, works of art, and building ornamentation. It is also a traditional Japanese material used as an adhesive for techniques like Kintsugi.
