  The great achievements of the Meiji era were achieved by connecting the thoughts of our predecessors.

   

  Sosui is a word that means an artificially constructed waterway.

  The Lake Biwa Canal carries water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto.

  Built during the Meiji period, it is still used in various ways, including supplying tap water to Kyoto, generating hydroelectric power, and for sightseeing boats.

  The Lake Biwa Canal Boat operates for a limited time only in spring and autumn, allowing you to enjoy the No. 1 Canal, which connects Kyoto and Shiga, as well as the tunnel and the natural scenery along the canal.

   

  See facilities designated as national treasures and important cultural properties from the boat!

  You can also learn about the history and highlights with a guided tour.
