[Tea Picking Experience] Uji Matcha Journey: A traditional experience connected to the SDGs

Welcome to the "Uji Tea Journey". In this program, you will discover the connection to the SDGs through the experience of cultivating and picking Uji tea. First, you will experience picking cultivated tea in a corner of the park. You will pick tea leaves with your own hands and learn about the manufacturing process. Then, you will learn cooking recipes using the tea leaves you picked. Through this journey, you will discover how a single tea leaf is connected to the earth and deepen your understanding of the SDGs. Why not try the "Uji Tea Journey" and experience tea picking that connects you to the SDGs? Let's embark on a journey to create a sustainable future together.

    <Museum guided tour>
    ・Learn about the different types of tea and the entire process from cultivation to hand-rolling of Uji tea.
    ・Learn about how Uji tea became a brand.
    ・We will introduce the history of Uji tea and the various people involved.

     

    <Lecture in the conference room>
    - Supplementary explanations of the museum, such as cultivation methods, and Q&A session

     

    <Tea picking experience>
    ・Learn the traditional hand-picking and handling of tea leaves in a tea plantation.
    After the tea picking experience, you will learn how to make tea at home using the picked tea leaves, as well as a recipe for making tempura.

[Pre-learning]

・Learn about the history, manufacturing methods and characteristics of Uji tea.
・Research tea cultivation and the SDGs.
・Think about SDGs related to tea production (good health and well-being, sustainable production and consumption, industry and technological innovation, strengthening local communities, etc.).

[On-site learning]

・Learn about the different types of tea and the entire process from cultivation to hand-rolling of Uji tea.
・We will develop a professional outlook for matcha production among artisans and tea farmers involved in Uji tea production, and have them think about their relationship with matcha production (present to future).
・Learn how to pick tea leaves in the tea plantation and how to handle the leaves.
After the tea picking experience, students will learn how to make tea at home using the picked tea leaves and recipes for cooking such as tempura. This will allow students to understand the tea production process and the various ways in which the products can be used.

[Post-learning]

・Reconsider the relevance of tea production to the SDGs.
・We will discuss the attractions and challenges of tea production jobs, the uniqueness of Uji tea, etc.
・We will also think about how we can contribute to tea production and the realization of the SDGs.
・We will consider ways to sustainably manage Uji's tea plantations.
・Think about ways to prepare the tea leaves you pick other than making tea.

①How to handle the picked tea leaves
Best before date: 2 days when refrigerated. Do not eat raw (please follow the recipe provided).
②How to handle the event if it is cancelled due to rain
